Oirase Stream Icefalls and Hot Spring Tour

The icefalls of Oirase Stream are gaining high recognition as a winter scenic feature of Aomori. This bus tour enables you to experience the Icefall Hot Spring at the Hoshino Resorts Oirase Keiryu Hotel where a day-trip bathing is only available for participants joining the tour.

Join this fantastic day tour from Hachinohe Station to the scenic route of Oirase Stream at Lake Towada. The guaranteed freezing temperature in Aomori transforms the waterfall into a frozen landscape creating a stunning view that can only be seen here in winter. The tour's highlight includes an outdoor hot spring at a lakeside resort, overlooking the frozen waterfall. Pamper yourself in a mineral-rich hot spring sourced from Mt. Hakkoda.

Makadoiwa
There are many waterfalls and rocks along the Oirase Stream of which the most prominent one is the Makadoiwa, a 20-meter rock that stands as if an entrance to Oirase. The clear water runs down the rock surface freezes into massive icicles under severe weather, making it a picturesque scene and a magical experience ever.

Choshi Great Waterfall (Choshi-otaki)
The Choshi-otaki is the widest waterfall in Oirase with 20m width and a 7-meter drop, it is also known as Japan’s own mini-Niagara with abundant  water flow from the Lake of Towada.
Visitors can enjoy changing views of waterfall with wood color changes throughout the year, however, the most impressive scene is at winter when the waterfall is partially frozen turning into a silvery wonderland of icicles and snow.
Frozen Waterfall Onsen
Located along the Oirase Stream, the hotel offers the first hot spring in the world which is surrounded by frozen waterfall. “Frozen Waterfall Onsen” is limited in winter only. You will be able to enjoy soaking in an open-air both overlooking the mountain stream while gazing at the frozen falls. Day use of the “Frozen Waterfall Onsen” is normally not available to non-hotel guests, but it is now made exclusively for passengers joining this sightseeing tour.
